City Boards

125th Anniversary Committee Board

The 125th Anniversary Committee Board was established by council vote in 2026 in order to organize a celebration for the quasquicentennial celebration of Oglesby’s founding (as Portland, Illinois) in 1902.  This board consists of two administrative assistants, tasked with organizing events, as well as community volunteers.  If interested in serving on this board, please reach out to Mayor Curran at [email protected].

Ambulance Service Board

The Ambulance Service Board of Directors is made up of seven members, the city’s fire chief and ambulance director, who are non-voting. The five voting members shall consist of Oglesby residents. The board is tasked with overseeing the ambulance service and makes recommendations to the director, Commissioner of oversight and/or the City Council when appropriate. The board meets on an as-needed basis.

Board of Fire & Police Commission

The Board of Fire and Police Commission is created by state statute. Three members, appointed by the mayor with consent of the council service for a period of three years. The board – with council involvement – shall have such powers and duties as are specified in Division 2.1 of Article 10 of the Illinois Municipal Code, and shall have the power to adopt rules and regulations in conformity therewith. The board is also responsible for testing for and maintaining the list of eligible candidates for positions within the department.

Design and Review Board

Five members comprise the Design/Review Board: three from the Plan Commission, a resident at large and the city’s building inspector. The design and review board shall receive and review all new construction and renovation of existing buildings located in the Oglesby business district, the area being all property located adjacent to the Richard Moyle II Road until it ends at Illinois State Route 251 to the west and to the 500 block of East Walnut Street to the east, and all property adjacent to Columbia Avenue from the 300 block of South Columbia Avenue to the 800 block of North Columbia. The board makes recommendations to the City Council for approval or disapproval of those plans.

Façade Committee

The Façade Committee is comprised of five members and the city’s economic developer. The committee meets on an as-needed basis to review and recommend for approval/disapproval applications for the city’s Building Improvement Grants.

Insurance Committee

The Insurance Committee was established by the Oglesby City Council in 2025 to provide advice on choices for healthcare plans for city employees.  It consists of two city council members, an active and retired member of each union, a non-union city employee, a resident with knowledge as it relates to insurance, and a resident with general financial knowledge.

Park Board

The Park Board consists of five members from the community who make recommendations concerning the maintenance, equipment and expansion of the local parks to the Parks Director, Commissioner of oversight and/or the City Council. The board meets on an as-needed basis.

Plan Commission

The Plan Commission will hear and make recommendations for text amendments, zoning map amendments, multi-family design review, special uses, preliminary plats and planned developments in accordance with the Land Development Code.

The Oglesby City Council gives final approval for all matters coming before the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Plan Commission.

The Plan Commission is also responsible for developing and revising the City’s Comprehensive Plan. Oglesby’s Comprehensive Plan was last adopted by the City Council in 2020 — click here to read.

Police Pension Board

The Police Pension Board is a five-member board who oversees the police pension fund. The board is made up of current police officers, retired officers and one resident.

Zoning Board of Appeals

The Zoning Board of Appeals is charged with hearing requests for variances to the Land Development Code. Variances from the use regulations of the Land Development Code are prohibited. Variances from the dimensional standards (setbacks, parking requirements; or landscape requirements) will be considered.

The Zoning Administrator has the initial responsibility and authority for the interpretation and enforcement of the Land Development Code and all other applicable ordinances, regulations and codes.
